Caitlyn Jenner: It was easier to come out as transgender than as a Republican

Caitlyn Jenner revealed Wednesday that it was easier to come out as transgender than as a Republican.

“It was easy to come out as trans, it was harder to come out as a Republican,” she said at a breakfast at the Republican National Convention aimed at upping LGBT inclusion in the GOP.

Jenner said the Democratic Party has been more progressive on the issue. Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, also credited President Obama for taking positive steps for the LGBT community.

Jenner said she won’t stop advocating for transgender rights, and hopes the GOP will join her fight.

“I want to help the Republican Party in so many ways,”the Olympic gold medalist said. “I think our best move to get back to a constitutional government is in the Republican Oarty. I won’t give up hope on it.”

She also called states’ efforts to block individuals from using bathrooms based on their gender identity a “non-issue” and noted that more GOP lawmakers have been arrested for inappropriate actions in public bathroom than transgender people.

“Maybe we should ban Republican representatives at the state level from being in bathrooms,” she allegedly quipped.

According to reports, fellow Republicans applauded when she acknowledged Obama’s move to eliminate the ban on transgender people openly serving in the military.
