David Dorn’s widow comforts family of slain officer as Trump praises her ‘extraordinary life’

The widow of slain retired police Capt. David Dorn was seen comforting a family who lost their mother in the line of duty.

Ann Dorn, who delivered a speech on the last night of the Republican National Convention, consoled the family of NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia after President Trump honored her during his convention speech.

“Detective Familia was a single mom. She recently asked for the night shift so she could spend more time with her kids. Two years ago, I stood in front of the U.S. Capitol alongside those beautiful children and held their grandmother’s hand as they mourned the terrible loss. And we honored Detective Familia’s extraordinary life,” Trump said, as the cameras panned over Familia’s children.

Dorn reached out to console Familia’s daughters, Genesis Villella and Delilah Vega, as their late mother was honored.

Dorn, herself a police officer, lost her husband David Dorn, a 38-year veteran of the St. Louis Police Department, earlier this year when looters in St. Louis shot him.

Familia was killed in 2017 while she was sitting in a police vehicle in the Bronx, becoming the first female police officer killed in the line of duty since 9/11. The shooter, Alexander Bonds, was shot and killed by police shortly after.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Genesis Villella urged protesters to humanize police officers.

“They have children and loved ones that need them to come home unharmed. And I just want everyone to know those police officers are human too. They have fears, they have people that they love, and they bleed just like the rest of us.”
