Alonso, the head stonemason at the National Cathedral, said Thursday that workers there “are back in construction mode” after days of cataloging the places where debris fell and checking the ceiling after the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the region on Aug. 30. Safety nets are being installed beneath the ceiling to guard against more falling debris, which will allow the world’s sixth-largest cathedral to be used for events marking the 10th anniversary of 9/11, including a concert that evening at which President Obama will speak.
