Nearly a dozen Northeastern University first-year students just had a wildly expensive night partying.
Eleven students from the Boston-based university were dismissed after they were caught violating the university’s social distancing, coronavirus-related policies, the university announced on Friday. None of the students will be reimbursed the $36,500 for one semester worth of their program’s tuition.

The students were caught on Wednesday night at the Westin Hotel, which is being used as an extra residence hall to try to mitigate the number of students in any single dormitory. More than 800 students, all of whom are a part of the N.U.in Program, which in a normal year is an international experience for first-year students, are all living in the Westin, which is less than a mile from campus.
“Northeastern and its community of students, faculty, and staff take violations of health and safety protocols very seriously,” said Madeleine Estabrook, the senior vice chancellor for student affairs at Northeastern. “Cooperation and compliance with public health guidelines is absolutely essential. Those people who do not follow the guidelines — including wearing masks, avoiding parties and other gatherings, practicing healthy distancing, washing your hands, and getting tested — are putting everyone else at risk.”
The students will not be allowed to take classes from home during the fall semester, but they are allowed to return in the spring, according to the Boston Globe.
After notifying the students of their expulsion, each was tested for the coronavirus and given a day to move out of their hotel room. If their test came back positive, they would be permitted to quarantine on campus.
