Several Latino groups are protesting Hillary Clinton’s visit to Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Daily News reported Thursday.
More than a thousand people have shown interest in the protest on Facebook, which features the support of Los Angeles-based groups including Union del Barrio and the Los Angeles Brown Berets.
The event describes Clinton as an enemy of the working class and urges protesters to condemn her for her alleged role in the death of a Honduran activist, her remark that young people in gangs are “super predators,” and her vote for the war in Iraq, among other issues.
Event organizer Ron Gochez told the Los Angeles Daily News that the protest is meant to show the Democratic frontrunner that she is not welcome.
“This event is to let Hillary know that she is not welcomed in Los Angeles and to raise community awareness of what she really represents,” Gochez said.
Gochez showed equal contempt for Donald Trump and did not voice support for any candidate.
“We will let the community know that either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton would make terrible presidents,” Gochez said. “This action is strictly to protest against Hillary Clinton and not in support of any party and/or candidates.”
The event description on Facebook echoed his sentiment.
“If we go hard against Trump, we need to do the same against Killary! Both are clear enemies of the working class!” the description stated.
The Latino community accused Clinton of pandering in December after her campaign posted a list titled “7 things Hillary Clinton has in common with your abuela,” or grandmother. Critics responded with a #NotMyAbuela hashtag and wrote that Clinton did not grow up in poverty or doing hard labor, and so was not like an abuela.
