The always-sold-out “Great Chefs? Dinner” was held recently at the Grand Masonic Lodge in Hunt Valley. The event annually benefits The Family Tree, which is steadfast in its commitment to fighting child neglect and abuse.
With a nod to event co-chairmen Lesley and Gary Geisel, Douglas Brinkley, the president of The Family Tree?s board of directors, thanked Provident Bank for its continued support. Geisel is the bank?s chairman and CEO. “We are very grateful to everyone for their support, but especially to Provident Bank for agreeing to underwrite our new public awareness effort, “Mealtime –The Great Family Time.”
Spotted enjoying the creations of award-winning chef Jim Gerhardt were Xandy and Roger Waesche, Style Magazine Editor Brian Lawrence and the other hard-working event chairmen, Laurie and John Frisch. This five-course yumfest brought in more than $570,000 to the state?s largest nonprofit.
HOME SWEET HOME!
Most Baltimoreans at some point have dealt with or have known someone who worked for the United States Fidelity & Guarantee Insurance Company. There are still many USF&G alumni in Charm City, and recently some of them got together for a reunion, 10 years after the Baltimore institution closed its doors. It was a return to a place they once called home ? the Mount Washington Conference Center. “It was old home week, back to a magical time with a great Baltimore company,” said former USF&G exec John Macoll, who was with his new squeeze, former Olympic gold medal skater Dorothy Hamill. Others strolling down memory lane included Deborah Feurer and Rosemary Quinn.
PSST! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Apparently Pope Benedict XVI is somewhat of an NFL fan. On his recent U.S visit he was introduced to Ann Mara, whose family owns the Super Bowl-winning New York Giants. Ann?s in-laws are June and Tim Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who also were at the meeting where Ann received a papal rosary. When asked if she got anything from His Holiness, June was heard to say: “Nope. Nothing. Zilch. The pope must not be a Steelers fan.” If that?s the case, do you think the Ravens can borrow that rosary when they play Pittsburgh?
