HOUSTON (AP) — A man accused in a federal indictment of heading a ring that used violence to force girls and young women from Mexico into sexual bondage in Houston-area bars has been returned to the United States by Mexico.
A statement issued Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Houston says Gerardo Salazar has arrived in Houston from Mexico. Salazar, whose nickname is “the Rooster,” faces multiple counts in a 2005 federal indictment of conspiracy, sex trafficking, transportation of minors for immoral purposes and illegal smuggling and harboring of immigrants for prostitution.
If convicted, the 47-year-old Mexico City man faces up to life in prison. He’ll make an initial court appearance before a federal magistrate on Friday. No attorney is listed in court records for Salazar.
