Sessions said FBI was better off when ‘you all only hired Irishmen,’ according to McCabe book

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions expressed dissatisfaction about the FBI’s workforce, saying it was better off when it was made up of Irishmen, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe wrote in his forthcoming book.

“Back in the old days, [Sessions] said, you all only hired Irishmen. They were drunks but they could be trusted. Not like all those new people with nose rings and tattoos,” McCabe wrote, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In “The Threat,” set to be released Tuesday, McCabe also claimed that Sessions blamed immigrants for many of America’s problems and sought to connect crime and immigration.

McCabe said Sessions’ first question about a suspect was, “Where’s he from?” The second was, “Where are his parents from?” according to the Washington Post.

McCabe briefly served as acting FBI director after James Comey was fired by President Trump in 2017.

McCabe was fired almost a year later, shortly before he was set to retire and collect his full pension.
