Democrats who reportedly are raising money to rebuild the vandalized Republican office in Hillsborough, N.C., are exhibiting behavior “consistent with the president’s optimistic outlook for the country,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Monday.
The office reportedly was firebombed and spray-painted with a swastika and the threat: “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else,” over the weekend.
Earnest said violence is never the answer to political differences and condemned the action.
He said peaceful protests, such as those more than 50 years ago across the South that led to seminal civil rights laws, are better at affecting long-lasting change.
