Police make arrest in Woodlawn murder

Baltimore County police Tuesday arrested the man suspected of killing the nephew of one of their own. Police charged Juvon Curtis Harris, 24, with shooting Taavon Chambers outside the Windsor Inn in Woodlawn early Sunday morning. They also identified a second victim, who is expected to survive, as Howard Lorenzo Hamlin of the 3400 block of Hillsmere Road in Gwynn Oak.

Responding to a report of “shots fired,” police arrived at the Windsor just after 2 a.m. to find Chambers, the nephew of a county police officer, dead in the parking lot and Hamlin suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Police spotted a vehicle matching the witnesses? description ? a white Lincoln Continental with a partial tag “LNL” ? on Liberty Road near Patterson Avenue shortly after the murder.

The tag was registered to Harris? address on the 3400 block of Piedmont Avenue in Baltimore City. Working with Baltimore City police, county officers arrested Harris around 3:10 a.m. after receiving a complaint of a subject firing a gun out of a white Lincoln Continental in the 3400 block of Labyrinth Road.

Police said Harris possessed a gun that matched evidence recovered at the scene of Chambers? murder. Police are still investigating a possible motive. Harris was charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree murder. He was denied bail and detained at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
