CHICAGO (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 34-year-old suburban Chicago man is facing charges for allegedly transmitting pornographic images of a child.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago says Kurt S. Mayer of Schaumburg was arrested Friday night and charged in a criminal complaint on Monday in U.S. District Court in Chicago.
A complaint affidavit alleges Mayer sent an email containing the images last week to a Washington D.C. police detective who was working undercover for an FBI task force.
The affidavit says the undercover officer was able to confirm the child was real and Mayer had just taken the photos, which he allegedly claimed in his messages.
Prosecutors say Mayer is in federal custody pending a detention hearing.
It was not immediately known if Mayer had an attorney.
