Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett and her husband, Jesse Barrett, have closed a sale on their South Bend, Indiana, home as their family prepares to make their move to Washington, D.C.
BARRETT WRITES FIRST MAJORITY OPINION, IN WILDLIFE PROTECTION CASE
Pat McCullough, the Barretts’ broker with Irish Realty, said the couple accepted an offer by a Notre Dame professor for the property within two weeks of its listing. The home was listed for $899,900.
“I’m sure their name certainly did not hurt [the property’s appeal], but the market is very strong,” McCullough said, according to a South Bend Tribune report on Monday.
The house is described as a six-bed, five-bath home with a fireplace in the living room, built-in bookcases, a finished lower level, a refinished kitchen, and hardwood floors throughout the complex. It also features a fenced backyard, large patio, covered deck, and a two-car garage.
Jesse Barrett said moving their seven children, two of whom they adopted from Haiti, away from the South Bend area is “really, really hard.”
“Six of our babies came home either from a hospital or from an international adoption to that house, so there’s just so many wonderful memories,” Barrett said. “South Bend has been such a fantastic place to raise our kids.”
Jesse Barrett, who renewed his membership in the District of Columbia bar, said their children will join his wife in Washington before the start of the next school year.
Coney Barrett was confirmed to the Supreme Court with a 52-48 vote by the Senate in October. Her confirmation led to a highly partisan clash on Capitol Hill after former President Donald Trump nominated her to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September, just two months before the 2020 election.

On Tuesday, it was also revealed that Coney Barrett acquired a $2 million advance for a book deal about how judges should not bring their personal feelings into their rulings. The advance is said to be an unusually high amount for a high-court justice.
