D.C. and Arlington are creating a new bike-sharing program to replace SmartBike DC later this year. But with a new program and a new vendor, comes the need for a new name.
So what to call a program that will allow people to rent a bike for a short trip and drop it off at any of some 100 stations in the District or Arlington. YouCycle? WeCycle? Bike2Go?… George?
An online survey presents 17 options — or the opportunity to write-in your own creation.
In Paris, they call it Vélib. In Montreal, it’s Bixi. Other places have gone with the rainbow: Yellow Bike (Portland, Ore.), Blue Bike (Buffalo, N.Y.), Green Bike (University of California – Berkeley and others)
Locally some punster offered up Capedal, according to a District Department of Transportation tweet. And apparently, George seems to be currying a lot of favor.
The voting ends Friday. Make that decision carefully, though, just one vote per person. But even so, popularity may not win this contest.
“We’re not promising it’s a completely democratic process because otherwise we might end up with a Stephen Colbert Bike Share program,” said DDOT spokesman John Lisle.
