Conservative commentator Ann Coulter took a victory lap on Twitter, claiming that she was right that President Trump would not hold true to his threat to shut down the border to force dramatic immigration reform by Congress.
“HEY! Who bet me that @realDonaldTrump was actually going to ‘close the border’?” Coulter tweeted.

Her comment comes three days after she criticized Trump’s original threat, facetiously proposing five different scenarios when Trump would decide to actually shut down the border, which experts have warned would have severe economical consequences, but Border Patrol agents said would be a welcome opportunity to provide back up to those patrolling areas of high illegal traffic.
In a series of tweets she called “Coulter’s Quiz,” Coulter asked whether Trump would close the border after signing an executive order against “anchor babies,” after replacing Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen with failed Kansas gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach, deporting beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, finishing construction of the border wall, or arresting the mayors of so-called sanctuary cities.
Trump recently scaled back his threat to close the border, saying that Mexico now has a year to get illegal crossings under control before Trump takes drastic action.
Coulter has been increasingly hostile towards Trump, calling for him to be harder on immigration policy and border security. Her criticism in December has been blamed for Trump’s decision to tank a spending deal that didn’t provide more than $5 billion for border security, leading to the longest shutdown in government history. During the 35-day partial shutdown, she railed against Trump, saying that he would be “dead in the water” if he reopened the government without the wall money. Trump unfollowed her on Twitter, notable as the president only follows 45 people and appears to have a “one-in, one out” policy for his follows.
