Enid attorney is accused of fraud in fee dispute involving former Oklahoma insurance commissioner

Enid attorney Stephen Jones has been accused of fraud and conspiracy in a dispute over more than $467,000 in unpaid legal fees allegedly owed to a Texas defense lawyer who represented disgraced former state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher.

Jones ridiculed the Tulsa federal court lawsuit, calling it “a piece of fiction.”

Texas attorney Daniel Hagood alleges that Jones, working for billionaire Texas insurance executive Eugene “Gene” Phillips, agreed to pay him and other attorneys legal fees for representing Fisher, in criminal tax and bribery cases.

Hagood said Jones and “the Organization” paid him $575,000 under the contracts, but failed to pay an additional $467,614 that was owed.
