Busch will seek reelection as speaker of Maryland’s House of Delegates for a seventh term. Busch, an Anne Arundel County Democrat, has served in the state legislature for 22 years. He was first elected to serve as House speaker in 2003. During the 2010 session, Busch sponsored and passed the Safe Schools Act to encourage more information sharing between police and school officials. The law is meant to curb gang activity in the state, though opponents say it would unfairly target innocent children.
