D.C. leaders called to Hill

The chairman of a House subcommittee with oversight of the D.C. government has raised the specter of a federal control board in calling a hearing on the city’s spending habits. Mayor Vincent Gray, Council Chairman Kwame Brown and Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi have all been called to testify at the hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill. “Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., has called the hearing to examine the fiscal sustainability of D.C. spending,” his office said. “In 1995 the District of Columbia Financial Responsibility and Management Assistance Act established a five-member ‘Control Board’ to oversee financial matters.” – Freeman Klopott
