Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to celebrate the opening of the long-awaited extension of Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown.
The new road connects Wisteria Drive to Route 118, Germantown Road. Costing $11 million, the project began in January 2010 and includes a bridge over the CSX railroad tracks.
“This extension of Father Hurley Boulevard is a short road with a huge impact on the Germantown community,” Leggett said. “The road is about enhancing the livability of one of our faster-growing communities and providing easier access to jobs, services and programs.”
Leggett was joined by County Councilman Craig Rice, D-Germantown, Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce President Marilyn Balcombe, former Germantown Alliance President Beverly Magda and Father Leonard Hurley, for whom the road is named, who is now a chaplain at the Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the District.
