Sanders’ campaign on DNC leak: ‘We long knew it’

Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager said the Democratic National Committee emails leaked last week confirmed what he always knew: that the DNS favored Hillary Clinton.

“I think we long knew it based on how we were treated during the campaign. I think for everybody else in the world, this was really sort of bringing it out in black and white,” Jeff Weaver said on CNN early Monday when asked about the emails.

The leaked emails show how hard the DNC worked against Sanders’ and his growing popularity during primary season. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, has since resigned.

“We knew it happened then. Now is the time to go forward,” Weaver added. “The thing to do now is elect Hillary Clinton and defeat Donald Trump.”

Weaver added that he believes Wasserman Schultz “did the right thing” by resigning.

“I think we’re going to have a chance to turn the page. We’re going to have new leadership there. I think we’ll have a new direction in the party. I think we’ll be ready to fight in the fall,” Weaver said.
