District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser lashed out at Donald Trump a day after the second debate, scolding the Republican nominee for claiming the country’s inner cities are a “disaster education-wise, job-wise, safety-wise, in every way possible.”
“Smh at DT who comes to DC for profit on the 1 hand, badmouths it on the other. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but here are the facts,” Bowser wrote. “Smh” is a millennial code that means “shaking my head.”

The first-term Democratic mayor noted the crime rate in the District has dropped 25 percent the past decade. Bowser cited local statistics on violent crime, property crime and overall crime rates that are near historic lows, similar to major cities across the country.
But Bowser did not mention the current numbers for homicide, sex abuse, theft and assault with a dangerous weapon. Each of those figures are nearing 2015 totals with just less than three months until the end of this year.
