1. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT
I really love Kushi Sushi in Chinatown. The atmosphere is great, and the sushi is fresh and delicious. They know my order by heart — I am definitely a regular.
2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
Rush hour traffic can be a headache, but driving is my preferred mode of transportation around D.C. It’s taken me about two years to learn how to navigate the circles, but I finally have the hang of it!
3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT
I love a good Caps or Wizards game. Any time when you can combine fried food and an arena — I’m there.
4. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC
9:30 Club is certainly the best place for live music in D.C. The venue is intimate, but still large enough to attract some incredible artists. The ticket prices are great, also.
5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS
The National Mall is certainly the best place for out-of-towners. The museums are all free, and there is countless hours of entertainment and history that can only be seen in our nation’s capital.
6. FAVORITE MUSEUM
I love the Native American Museum. It has some great exhibits that really showcase some intriguing history and the best food court on the Mall, filled with authentic Native American dishes.
7. MOST ROMANTIC SPOT
Even though D.C. shuts down with a slight dusting of flurries, I think when our city is blanketed in snow, nothing is more romantic than taking a stroll to the monuments and looking around our beautiful capital.
8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY
Brunch at the Kennedy Center rooftop buffet followed by a food coma, and then a trip to the E Street Cinema to watch a great movie.
9. BEN’S CHILI BOWL, OLD EBBITT GRILL OR CAFE MILANO?
Cafe Milano. It has a great vibe and even better food. Can you ever go wrong with Italian?!
10. BEST RETREAT OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY
Going wine tasting in Virginia is a great weekend getaway. There are so many vineyards within a two-hour drive from the city that have great tours and tastings.
11. BEST RETREAT INSIDE THE BELTWAY
Old Town Alexandria is a great retreat inside the Beltway. There are great restaurants and lots of fun boutiques to shop in.
12. BEST PLACE FOR LATE-NIGHT EATS
Crepeaway (2001 L St. NW)! They are open superlate and serve a variety of savory and sweet crepes that hit the spot after a long night out.
13. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. AREA
It’s our nation’s capital: History is being made here every day. D.C. is filled with very bright, driven, articulate professionals. I am so proud to be a Washingtonian.
14. EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN D.C. AREA
The fact that D.C. is still not a state. Even though its residents pay taxes, they have no real say or voice in our government.
