Three people were taken into custody by police Monday after law enforcement uncovered a plot to kill Baton Rouge, La., cops with stolen guns, CBS News reported Tuesday evening.
The men broke into a Baton Rouge pawn shop early Saturday and stole seven guns specifically for their planned attack on police. Five firearms have been recovered, but two are still missing, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The three men who were arrested are 13, 17 and 20 years old. Police say they are still looking for another 20-year-old.
One of the suspects told police Monday their plot to murder police had been in response to the death of Alton Sterling last week, an African-American man who was fatally shot by police when he fought officers while being arrested.
Residents throughout the state have rallied over the past week, triggering the Justice Department to conduct a civil rights investigation into the police officer’s use of force in the case and whether the officer was racially motivated to kill Sterling.
