Some residents want the newly elected Howard County Council to appoint the nominee to the county?s planning board, which makes recommendations on zoning requests and development proposals.
The new Coalition for Columbia?s Downtown is requesting the County Council table the nomination of Cabell Greenwood, a former member of the Columbia Association?s board.
The new council elected in November will be the ones to work closely with the nominee, and it should make that decision, Alan Klein, head of the coalition, said at this week?s public hearing. The five-member planning board is selected by the county executive and confirmed by the County Council.
Greenwood said the planning board should be nonpartisan, and he wasn?t sure why waiting to confirm a nominee would make a difference if the pick was qualified.
The County Council is expected to make a decision Oct. 30 at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City.
