Dominican AG: Ortiz shooting result of mistaken identity

Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was reportedly not the intended target of a shooting back in March.

According to the Associated Press, the Dominican Republic’s attorney general, Jean Alain Rodríguez, said that the target of the nightclub shooting was, in fact, a man who was dressed similarly to the Santo Domingo native, according to the Associated Press.

The intended target was sitting with Ortiz that night.

Rodríguez also said that the crime was committed by a member of Mexico’s Gulf Cartel, who remains at large.

Since the June 9 shooting, Ortiz has remained in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound in his back. His condition has be upgraded from “guarded” to “good” by hospital doctors.
