Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid called Donald Trump a racist while speaking on the Senate floor Monday afternoon.
“Donald Trump is a racist,” the retiring Nevada senator said.
Reid’s rebuke came several hours before the Republican nominee takes on Hillary Clinton in the first presidential debate.
Reid had flirted with labeling the billionaire businessman a racist two weeks ago during a CNN interview, but said it was up to the public and the press to “make that decision.”
The Monday attack was a step up for Reid, who has previously called Trump a “spoiled brat,” “con artist” and “human leech who will bleed the country.”
With Reid leaving Congress at the end of the year, he has frequently focused portions of his floor speeches on demonizing Trump.
