Trump slams LA mayor for ‘urging illegals to beat the system’

President Trump slammed the mayor of one of America’s biggest cities after he tweeted a video assuring illegal immigrants of their constitutional rights.

Trump is visiting Los Angeles as part of a three-day West Coast tour that includes plans to speak with the organizers of the 2028 Olympic Games. On Sunday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted his support for illegal immigrants, reminding them that the LA Police Department “does not coordinate with ICE or participate in immigration enforcement.”

“No matter their immigration status, I want every Angeleno to know their rights and how to exercise them,” Garcetti said. “Remember, you have the right to remain silent. You don’t have to open your door to an ICE agent that doesn’t have a warrant signed by a judge. You have the right to speak to a lawyer before signing any documents or speaking to law enforcement.”

Trump has made restricting illegal immigration from the U.S. southern border a top priority of his administration and is building a promised wall there.

“The Mayor’s efforts to shield illegal aliens endangers the lives of the public and law enforcement who have to go into the field to apprehend those released,” Trump tweeted. “He shouldn’t be urging illegals to beat the system, he should be urging them to safely turn themselves in!”

Garcetti has been criticized for his administration’s failure to tackle rising taxes, growing homelessness, and a massive pension liability problem that has amplified the exodus of residents from California and LA in 2019.
