Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday he has not been contacted by Donald Trump’s campaign about being vetted for the vice presidential slot.
“Nobody has called me,” Gingrich told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. “Nobody has said, ‘Would you like to be?’ Nobody has said, ‘Would you be willing to be considered? Nobody has said anything.”
But if Trump is interested in tapping Gingrich as his running mate, the former House speaker said there’s not much vetting that needs to be done.
“I mean, you guys have been all over me for a decade,” he quipped, referring to members of the media. “It’s all out, all you got to do is Google.”
And Gingrich said there’s a good chance Trump will make his decision about a running mate in the eleventh hour.
“He’s probably going to start thinking about it two days before Cleveland,” Gingrich said.
Trump has previously said he plans to reveal his vice presidential pick at next month’s Republican National Convention.
