Get ready for what likely will be a preview of a portion of the first Comic Relief in eight years.
Whoopi Goldberg, who?s one of a handful of celebrities who has won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Golden Globe Award, is bringing her act to Baltimore on Saturday. With credentials like that, humanitarian work and a new talk radio show on Clear Channel Radio, why would she put her comedy show back on the road except to practice for the upcoming Katrina fundraiser?
Whoopi?s not talking, butwe do know from reports by insiders that “everyone is psyched” for the event, which will be broadcast Nov. 18, on HBO and TBS to benefit the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The show?s main location is Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, with remotes from New Orleans.
Goldberg, Billy Crystal and just-out-of-rehab Robin Williams are slated to host the event. Other celebs booked for the evening include Roseanne Barr, Lewis Black, Susie Essman, George Lopez, Bill Maher, Ray Romano and Rita Rudner.
“Disasters like Katrina devastate the environment and cause suffering for all forms of life, both human and animal,” said comedian Bob Zmuda, the founder and spokesman for the charity in a news release. “Comic Relief is determined to address these tragedies by benefiting everyone from the elderly to children, even their pets.”
