Presidential candidate Donald Trump said in May that he would appear in all the Republican primary debates to hammer home his message.
“If I run, I will be in all the primary debates and you will see why I am the only one who can Make America Great Again!” Trump said on his unofficial PR platform, Twitter, on May 7.
His campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in this week’s FOX News-Google debate, the last such forum before the Iowa Caucuses.
“Unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground, Mr. Trump knows when to walk away,” the campaign’s statement reads. “Roger Ailes and FOX News think they can toy with him, but Mr. Trump doesn’t play games.”
Instead, Trump will play some counterprogramming politics. The statement suggests that he will host an event benefiting “the Veterans and Wounded Warriors” in lieu of his appearance at Thursday’s debate.
