NBC News’ Tom Brokaw warned of a potential “homegrown 9/11” during a Monday appearance on Morning Joe.
Brokaw’s statements came days after two mass shootings rocked the country. A shooter killed 20 people in an El Paso, Texas Walmart, and hours later, another gunman killed 9 in Dayton, Ohio.
“My response is, watching this from Montana as I have been, I think we have to have a far more organic approach to all of this than just picking out the guns or picking out the attitudes,” Brokaw stated. “It looks to me as if we’re moving towards our own homegrown 9/11 the way that it’s going now. People have access to a degree that we had not realize before, to social media. They can stir things up, and then they can get their hands on these automatic weapons.”
Brokaw’s appearance on the network to discuss the El Paso shooter in particular, who reportedly published an anti-immigrant screed moments before the shooting, did not go over well.
Earlier this year, the long-time reporter argued that Hispanics should “work harder at assimilation” into American culture. NBC ultimately distanced themselves from his comments, and he eventually apologized.
Wow! So Tom Brokaw believes Hispanics should “work harder at assimilation” into American culture. So it’s okay to target people based on their lineage? They should simply work harder at being accepted by White Americans. SMFH. He is as ignorant as he is irrelevant. F*ck off!
