Trump: ‘I strongly pressed’ Putin on Russian meddling and he ‘vehemently denied it’

President Trump said early Sunday that he “strongly” pressed Russian President Vladimir Putin on his country’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election while the leaders privately met during the G-20 summit in Germany last week.

“I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it. I’ve already given my opinion…..” Trump tweeted.

“…We negotiated a ceasefire in parts of Syria which will save lives. Now it is time to move forward in working constructively with Russia!” he added.

Trump did not reveal whether he accepted Putin’s denial of interfering in the presidential election, as the Russians claimed after the meeting.

U.S. intelligence agencies say Russia did meddle in the 2016 election, though Trump has repeatedly refused to solely blame Russia.

Continuing his string of tweets, Trump then said the U.S. and Russia plan to work together on cybersecurity so that “election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded…..and safe.”

As he has done before, Trump also questioned why the Democratic National Committee did not immediately turn over their servers to the FBI and CIA once it was discovered that the Russians had breached their systems.

“Questions were asked about why the CIA & FBI had to ask the DNC 13 times for their SERVER, and were rejected, still don’t have it,” he tweeted. “Fake News said 17 intel agencies when actually 4 (had to apologize). Why did Obama do NOTHING when he had info before election?”
