Rain, cooler temperatures expected this week in Washington

Don’t leave your umbrella and jacket at home. Today’s weather will be cold and rainy.

The National Weather Service predicts showers for the Washington area, and the region could receive as much as a quarter of an inch of rain. The high temperature in the District is expected to be about 49 degrees, and it could be colder in suburban areas.

Today may not be the only rainy day this week. There is a 50 percent chance of showers Wednesday night and Thursday, forecasters said. In areas north of the District, there is a 20 percent chance of showers Tuesday.

Tuesday’s high temperature will approach 60 degrees, forecasters said, and high temperatures for the rest of the week are predicted to be in the mid-to-upper 60s.

The average high temperature on today’s date at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is 69 degrees, according to weather service records.
