The Wizards will need all the inspiration they should get by the addition of the Abe Pollin patch to their uniform and the logo on the Verizon Center court because the Celtics are on fire. They’ve won eight in a row. They’ve lost once on the road all year. Kevin Garnett is the reigning Eastern Conference player of the week (perhaps he could take a night off in honor of his first pro coach?) Ray Allen needs 14 points to reach 20,000. The Wizards have lost to them three times in a row. Good thing they play each other four times this season.
Flip Saunders talked about wearing the patch: “He’s been such a big part of what this city has, when you talk about basketball, even his influence with the high schools and city championship being played in the arena. To be honest, I wish we didn’t have to wear it because I wish he was still here able to watch us play, but he’s not. Because he’s not, we know he’s always going to be watching us, and he’s going to be our biggest fan. So it’s nice for around the other NBA, as we go on the road, that maybe aren’t aware, they’ll see the patch, and they’ll want to know why. It gives you a situation to be able to explain the impact that he had, not only with our team but also in the NBA.”
