Conservative radio host Joe Walsh said President Trump has “no shred of decency” and has damaged the Republican Party after he disparaged four minority representatives.
Walsh, a former GOP representative from Illinois, said Trump’s comments were “offensive,” “anti-American,” and “racist” during a Tuesday interview on CNN.
The war of words began when Trump tweeted at a group of four minority Democratic representatives to “go back” to their countries, even though three of them were born in the U.S. The liberal “squad” is comprised of Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.
Walsh, who professed to be no fan of Trump, said he is “disappointed” that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to call Trump a racist, even as some members of his party have rebuked the president.
Walsh also said these comments of Trump’s “are going to hurt him, and I think they’re going to hurt the party, and I think they should.”
House Democrats plan a Tuesday vote on a resolution condemning Trump’s tweet. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he’ll introduce a similar measure in the Senate, but the GOP controls the floor.
