Prosecutors have dropped all charges against the remaining three Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray.
The announcement comes as pretrial motions were set to begin Wednesday morning against Officer Garrett Miller.
Miller, 27, was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct related to the arrest of Gray. He would have been the fifth officer to stand trial in the case.
Gray, 25, was a 25-year-old black man who died a week after suffering a severe spinal injury in the back of a police transport van in April 2015.
Prosecutors in the office of Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby had yet to secure a conviction in the prior four cases.
Officer William Porter’s trial ended with a hung jury and a mistrial in December, before Circuit Judge Barry G. Williams acquitted Officers Edward Nero and Caesar Goodson and Lt. Brian Rice at bench trials in May, June, and July, respectively.
