Former U.K. Independence Party leader Nigel Farage will speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference later this month, the Washington Examiner has learned.
For the second time, Farage will join a slew of big-name conservative figures from Feb. 22-25 in the U.S. political scene at a convention center in Maryland just south of Washington, D.C.
Farage was a figurehead in the successful campaign to get his country to vote for a “Brexit” from the European Union last summer. During the 2016 presidential campaign, parallels were drawn between Farage and then-candidate Donald Trump, for whom Farage was a vocal supporter.
In the days following Trump’s election victory, Trump met with Farage and later tweeted that he would “do a great job” if selected to be Britain’s ambassador to the U.S.
The Washington Examiner also learned Tuesday that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, a former Republican presidential candidate, will speak at the event.
CPAC’s schedule already includes leading Republican figures, including Vice President Mike Pence; Texas Sen. Ted Cruz; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; former Hewlett-Packard CEO and presidential candidate Carly Fiorina; and Michael Reagan, former President Ronald Reagan’s eldest son.
Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, told the Washington Examiner earlier this month that President Trump has been invited to speak at the event. Organizers are hopeful Trump, who has appeared at the event in prior years, will speak again this year.
