WHO: U.S. Department of Education
WHAT: Gave Title III and Title V to Morgan State University
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The U.S. Government Accountability Office recently released a study examining universities’ use of federal grants. According to this study, Morgan State misused more than $105,000 of the $427,180 grant money it received in 2006. MSU spent $80,000 on trips to theme parks and resorts for students in a leadership program, $6,000 on furniture and $4,578 for an airplane GPS system, even though the Baltimore school does not own an airplane.
WHERE TO VENT: Call U.S. Department of Education’s inspector general at 202-401-2000.
