The Pentagon detected Syrian fixed-wing aircraft drop bombs on a Syrian town where earlier this week chemical weapons were suspected to have killed dozens of civilians, including children, according to a report.
Citing two military officials, NBC Pentagon correspondent Hans Nichols reported Thursday that the Pentagon saw the aircraft drop bombs on the site and the explosion.
“This is pretty clear proof at least as far as the Pentagon is concerned that Syrian forces were behind this,” Nichols said on MSNBC. “It wasn’t an artillery shell. These were bombs and the bombs caused the chemical weapons to disperse. They think there may be two different chemicals in there.”
Trump condemned the chemical strike on Wednesday, saying it “crossed a lot of lines for me” and his “attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much.” He is considering a military response, according to a report from CNN on Thursday.
