The Daily Beast sues Justice Department for records on House Intelligence memo on alleged FISA abuse

The Daily Beast and a government accountability group are suing the Justice Department for the release of records related to House Intelligence Committee memos released earlier this year, the news outlet announced Thursday.

A Freedom of Information Act lawsuit was filed Thursday by the Daily Beast and the James Madison Project.

The lawsuit demands the release of documents on the declassification of documents related to the Republican memo on alleged FISA surveillance abuses by the government, as well as the Democrats’ rebuttal memo.

Trump allowed the unredacted release of the Republican memo, which contains research on how the FBI allegedly abused a surveillance program to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, in February.

Afterwards, the Democratic memo, which was spearheaded by ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was only allowed to be released to the public with some sensitive information redacted.
