A husband and wife have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a scheme to conceal millions of dollars in real-estate profits from the Internal Revenue Service.
Minh-Vu Hoang, 58, orchestrated the fraud with her husband, Tranh Hoang, 65. They and other relatives bought hundreds of properties at foreclosure auctions and resold them for a profit from 2000 to 2005, according to court records. The family concealed their involvement in the purchases to avoid paying taxes, authorities say.
Minh-Vu Hoang was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Greenbelt to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. Tranh Hoang was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.
They pleaded guilty in January.
