Amber Heard intends to appeal the defamation case against ex-husband Johnny Depp but will be required to file the damages she owes him first.
Lawyers for both parties were back in Fairfax County court Friday to hear the final order from Judge Penney Azcarate. Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, asked for a post-verdict briefing schedule, according to a court reporter.
Bredehoft asked to have another hearing, to which Azcarate responded by explaining Heard’s need to file the suspension bond of $8.35 million required by the judgment first. Heard is also required to pay 6% annual interest. Once those dues are paid, Heard and her legal team may begin the process of submitting an appeal request.

Heard has yet to file an appeal because she would have to file the bond at the same time. In the meantime, Bredehoft has filed some documents under seal. Azcarate assured the courtroom that she intends to unseal all the filed documents.

Depp’s lawyers Benjamin Chew and Andrew Crawford had also filed an objection to the final order. They listed several complaints, mostly citing their own oral and written arguments, but also disputing the one defamation charge Heard won against Depp, saying it was “unsupported by the facts.”
