Herndon-based communications provider RCN Corporation has agreed to a two-year deal to sponsor the Washington Capital’s $43.7 million practice complex in Arlington.
Under the publicly disclosed terms of the deal, RCN will be the sole cable provider at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, and has the opportunity to capitalize on branding opportunities for its Web and television service.
Financial terms of the deal were not made public.
The Iceplex opened to much fanfare late last year. It is located on top of a seven-story parking complex, and then-Arlington County Board Chair Chris Zimmerman praised the facility as an example of smart growth.
The practice facility has two ice rinks and a total occupancy of 2,100.
“Kettler Capitals Iceplex is a state-of-the-art facility that deserves only the best in technology,” Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis said in a statement. “RCN adds cable services and a level of sponsorship that will add to the quality of the building for the community, players, coaches, fans and staff.”
