As part of an effort to overhaul the federal procurement process, the General Services Administration has tapped the Northern Virginia Technology Council to advise on possible reforms.
GSA Administrator Lurita Doan, who was appointed as the agency’s head in May, met with NVTC President and CEO Bobbie Kilberg in October following a speech Doan gave to members of the Tech Council. Kilberg said members of NVTC will meet with Doan and her team in early 2007 to look at ways to reform the process, which critics often say is too cumbersome and difficult for smaller companies.
Doan, who has been credited with leading the first significant overhaul of the process in years, outlined a list of four issues that NVTC will advise on.
Doan asked for assistance in developing solutions that help expedite the procurement process, and looking at ways to update the procurement strategy for the 21st century. In addition, NVTC will use its expertise in the technology industry to suggest better methods for transferring technology to government agencies from the private sector. Finally, NVTC will help GSA monitor the outcomes of the new reforms.
Doan spent a good part of her own career in Northern Virginia. She founded Reston-based New Technology Management in 1990.
