Chantilly firm ranked nation’s 10th-best company to work for

Chantilly-based software company Johnston McLamb was named the 10th-best company in the nation to work for by the Society of Human Resource Management. Johnston McLamb was the only Washington-area company to make the list, which ranked its 25 best small- and medium-sized companies.

The annual list is put together by the Great Places to Work Institute Inc. a San Francisco-based research and consulting company that also does FORTUNE magazine’s annual “Best Companies to Work For” list. The firms on the Society of Human Resource Management “best companies” list all demonstrated a dedication to communicating clearly with employees and encouraging them to voice opinions. Each of the 50 companies also offers generous salary and benefit packages for employees.

Johnston McLamb offers customized information management solutions to both private and public sector clients. The firm employs about 115 people. The company attracts and keeps employees by offering performance-based incentive programs that see returns on a monthly basis. In addition, the company strives to align employee and corporate goals “to create a highly motivated and productive work force requiring minimal management overhead,” according to its Web site.

“Too often, we hear that large companies have the advantage in the war for talent because they have more resources,” said Susan R. Meisinger, president and CEO of the Society of Human Resource Management. “But these companies have the advantage in the war for talent because they understand that employees are their competitive edge.”
