MicroStrategy rallies on revenue MicroStrategy Inc. stock rallied as much as 24 percent in Wednesday trading after reporting higher revenue on strong licensing sales.

The McLean-based data-mining software maker’s profits fell as it invested in its future growth.

Fourth-quarter revenue reached a record $139.1 million, compared with $105.8 million a year earlier. Sales were led by a 59 percent increase in product license revenues and a 20 percent increase in product support and services.

Net income fell to $17.9 million, or $1.60 per share, compared with net income of $20.5 million, or $1.66 per share a year earlier. Operating expenses increased 46 percent as it increased its worldwide sales force and sales commissions rose along with revenue.

MicroStrategy, which has about 2,000 Washington-area employees, hired hundreds of workers last year and has said it has hundreds more openings to fill in the next 12 months. The company has operations in about 20 countries.

ManTech wins $45 million Navy contract

Fairfax defense contractor ManTech International Corp. won a $45 million task order by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, to provide engineering, technical and program management support for submarine and surface-ship silencing programs.

The task order has a four-year period of performance.

ManTech’s work will include evaluation of new submarine technology, engineering for mine-vulnerability assessments and assistance in planning ship acoustics programs.
