Housing prices held steady in the Baltimore area last month, but the number of homes sold declined more than 17 percent, according to data released Monday.
Homes in the Baltimore area also stayed on the market longer, an average of 84 days in August, compared with 58 days during the same month last year, according to the Metropolitan Regional Information System?s monthly real estate statistics.
Home prices in the greater metro area remained steady last month, dropping just 0.03 percent to $323,134 from $323,215. Those figures come amid the lowest reported national housing prices in 20 years.
Total sales figures saw a more significant dip, however, falling more than 17 percent to $926,749,101 from more than $1.1 billion last year. The total number of units sold also saw a 17 percent drop, to 2,868 last month from 3,460 the year before.
Across the region, Anne Arundel County home prices dropped the most, down 5.09 percent from last year to $396,173 from $417,426. Carroll and Harford counties also saw decreases, both of less than 2 percent.
Baltimore County home prices grew more than 3 percent over last year, to $324,549 from $315,078, according to the data. Baltimore City and Howard County also experienced increases in average sale price.
