Ticketmaster division plans to sell concert tickets through Facebook. Users of the world’s biggest social network will be able to share information on concerts and buy tickets without leaving the website, Michael Rapino, chief executive officer of Beverly Hills, Calif.- based Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, said at a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. conference.
Facebook, with more than 750 million users worldwide, is a “fabulous marketing tool” that has the ability to stimulate interest, Rapino said. Engineers from Live Nation and Facebook spent six months working together, during which the companies created a concert calendar and interactive tools, he said.
“They are interested in figuring out how to give their users more opportunities to stay there, interact, find out about things and shop,” Rapino said. “It’s a natural fit for us.”
The company also has held talks with Twitter, Rapino said.
