12 school subjects most valued by Americans

Apparently learning those pesky parabolas wasn’t all for not. The ballots have been tallied and according to Americans, math is the most valuable subject learned in school.

According to a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, more than 2,000 Americans were surveyed about which subjects they learned in school turned out to be the most valuable in their lives. While math took the top spot, English and science came in second and third, respectively.

The poll compared the classes Americans viewed as the most valuable in 2002 to 2012, with math and English still taking the top spots. However, those polled in 2002 didn’t seem to view the performing arts — art, theater and music — as too worthwhile. The arts didn’t even make the list in 2002, but now 2 percent of Americans feel they were valuable.
