Top Chris Christie donor Ken Langone made the case this morning on CNBC that Carly Fiorina is only doing well in the presidential race because she’s a woman. “She’s done nothing of any consequence in business,” said Langone, a founder of Home Depot.
Langone turned to Becky Quick, the only woman on set, and asked, “Becky, question for you. If the only reason you are sitting there and had this job is because you’re a woman, how would you feel about that?”
“Terrible,” she said.
“Ok,” said Langone, “So would I. What do you hear about Carly Fiorina? She’s repositioned herself. She starts out at probably most political company in America, the old AT&T. It was all politics–move from this subsidiary to that. It’s all who you know. … She blows out of Lucent, it’s a mess. She goes to Hewlett Packard, she was fired because she made a mess. So one guy comes out, now’s she saying, Oh, the guy changed his mind, I’ll be a great president. Of course, she might be president so he’s hedging his bet now. She’s done nothing of any consequence in business. Ih, she likes to tell us, I was a secretary, and now I’m a CEO or I was a CEO–a discredited CEO, twice.”
Christie was on set for the entire segment.
