Steve Grossman, known in Washington for his role as a political operative and former Democratic National Committee chairman, is opening a branch of his family-owned marketing firm in D.C.
Grossman heads Grossman Marketing Strategies, a 97-year-old business that has been in his family since its founding. The Somerville, Mass., firm will now have an outpost, headed by Tim Lim, at Vermont Avenue and K Street Northwest.
Grossman, the company’s CEO, formerly led both the DNC and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in the ‘90s.
“I figured if I can’t build some relationships and do some nice work in Washington, something’s got to be wrong with me,” Grossman said Friday.
Grossman Marketing prides itself on being a union shop that can produce graphic design, print, electronic and physical materials with an extremely quick turnaround. It specializes in making branded promotional products.
The company recently purchased 4 billion envelopes which had been produced exclusively using wind power. It plans to market the envelopes to clients who want to be green-friendly.
“I think we understand what Washington customers need and have the creativity here to bring innovation and imagination to the task,” Grossman said.
The group already has a number of D.C.-based clients, such as the Federation of American Scientists, theDNC, the Center for American Progress and the National Jewish Democratic Counsel.
